Pinela
Primary Region(s): Primorska (exclusively in the Vipava Valley).
The Grape & Its Cultivation: A rare, indigenous grape that is the pride of the Vipava Valley. It is a delicate variety that requires sunny, well-drained marl slopes to ripen properly. Its bunches are small and compact, making it susceptible to rot, so the dry, windy conditions of the valley are essential.
Winemaking & Styles: Typically vinified as a dry, fresh white wine, though some producers are experimenting with barrel aging and light skin contact. Its charm lies in its subtlety and elegance.
Tasting Profile: Pinela is delicately aromatic with notes of grapefruit, green apple, and gentle white flowers. It has a wonderfully soft texture in the mouth, balanced by lively acidity.
